WE’VE GOT YOU COVERED!
Our top picks for ‘alcohol free’ Swan Valley attractions…
Believe it or not, the Swan Valley has a lot more to offer than it’s beautiful wineries and upbeat breweries. We’ve included below some of our favourite things to see and do on one of our Perth Wine Tours that are ‘alcohol free’, but LOADS of fun for everybody.
The Cheese Barrel
For all of you cheese lovers out there like us, The Cheese Barrel is heaven on earth! You will find very high quality farmhouse and artisanal cheeses from all around the world. You can ‘Build your own Board’ or try one of the many Cheese Boards on their menu. They all showcase 3 or 4 amazing types of cheese accompanied with slices of fresh bread, seasonal fruit, lavosh and fruit paste.
While you’re there, you can also check out the cheese classroom where The Cheese Maker teaches the art of making mozzarella, haloumi, camembert, mascarpone, feta and yogurt.
For those of you who don’t like cheese (what’s wrong with you!), there are pastries, baguettes, tarts, macarons and milkshakes. Or why not enjoy one of their wonderful ‘5 Senses’ coffee. It is also very child friendly and has a large shaded sandpit down stairs.
Yahava Koffee Works
Yahava sources coffee beans from around the world and roasts them to order. You can take part in a coffee appreciation session and learn about coffee growing, harvesting and roasting, as well as enjoy coffee tastings.
There’s a wide range of coffee-related products for sale – cups, plungers and coffee beans, including chocolate-covered. Tea lovers will also find a fine selection of tea, teapots, infusers and other tea-related items. Throughout the store are tables and comfy seats for you to sit with friends and enjoy a coffee. The perfect way to start a day in the valley with a much needed ‘Koffee’ fix.
If you don’t have time to stop in – no fret! Yahava now have a Koffee drive thru located outside the shop (on West Swan Rd) so you don’t even have to get out of your car.. oooooh yeeeaaaahhh.
Providore & The Margaret River Chocolate Factory
If you haven’t already visited this ‘Top 100 Australian Gourmet Experience’, then it’s a MUST. Providore feature specific food tasting counters with a huge range of preserves, chutneys, olive oils, and a not-to-be-missed chocolate liqueur. They now have a ‘delicatessen’ with premium cheeses, cold cuts, pates and more, as well as freshly baked baguettes to purchase – it’s pretty much your one-stop-shop for a gourmet picnic!!
The Providore building is also home to Coward & Black Winemakers. This means wine tasting (if you must) from their Coward & Black range of wines and the best part…it’s only a short stroll to their sister-company, The Margaret River Chocolate Factory. This is where you can loose yourself in free decedent chocolate tastings, yummy truffles and gorgeous edible gifts for your friends and family… if you can bare to give them away!!
The Swan Valley Factory also offers their customers viewing windows to see all the action and hundreds of delicious chocolate products.
If you’re a little bit more peckish you can also enjoy a light breakfast, lunch OR morning or afternoon tea at the Chocolate Cafe (Yes, you can get food other than chocolate!). There’s a whole menu dedicated to chocolate, including chocolate fondue, ice cream sundaes and hot chocolates made with couverture milk, white or dark chocolate.
Super Golf
A day out in the Swan Valley would not be complete without a visit to Oasis Supa Golf and Adventure Putt.
Set in beautifully landscaped grounds, Supa Golf is a modified form of traditional golf and uses larger clubs and balls made of soft polyurethane composite. Therefore the ball does not travel as far as a normal golf ball – generally no further than 100m – and on average it takes an hour and a half to play 9 holes.
For the less energetic there is our 18-hole Adventure Putt course. Laid out in the same way as a normal golf course only in miniature and set amongst beautiful gardens and water features, it is a fun game for all ages from 3 years and up.
Caversham Wildlife Park
Showcasing the largest private collection of native wildlife in Western Australia, the Caversham Wildlife Park is a great meet & greet experience for the whole family, tourists and all those animal lovers out there.
Here you will find around 200 species of fauna, with around 2,000 animals, birds and reptiles, including dingoes, emus, echidnas, owls, kookaburras, quokkas, cassowaries, possums, flying foxes, quolls and swans.
Hand-feed the kangaroos and farm animals, join in the interactive shows, touch a possum or lizard, meet a wombat, catch a keeper talk or two and have photos taken with koalas!
All of their shows, talks, photo opportunities and animal food are included in the entry fee! With no extra money needed around the park, you can make the most of your experience at Caversham Wildlife Park.
Mondo Nougat & Morish Nuts
Mondo Nougat began as Mondo Patisserie, a producer and retailer of traditional Italian specialties including cakes, biscuits and ice cream. Traditional Italian nougat was just one of the Mondo Patisserie’s creations but it proved so popular that Mondo Patisserie shifted its focus to become Mondo Nougat, with the nougat factory in the Swan Valley opening to the public in 2005.
They make and sell many varieties of nougat, including honey, roasted almonds, chocolate, cherry and more! Not sure if you’re a crunchy or chewy fan? Why not try a few and find out! The nougat is also gluten-free and the plain and dark chocolate-coated varieties are lactose-free.
As you walk into their relaxed café, prepare to be temped by the array of homemade Italian pastries, cakes and biscotti. You can also watch nougat being made in the factory through the viewing window and don’t forget to try their famous nougat-flavoured gelato!
And what goes with nougat like white on rice?!? NUTS!! Mondo’s premium-selected nuts are used from Australian producers. They roast and lightly caramel coat them to enhance the natural flavour of the nuts and kernels, and no colourant, additive or preservative are added. Their savoury products are also an excellent option for those who prefer a healthier snack! The Swan Valley Factory allows Morish Nuts to experiment with new products for your very own tastings, including their decedent Crunch and Peanut Brittle or Hot & Spicy Caramel Coated Peanuts, Cashews and Macadamias mmm. MUST TRY THEIR WASABI MACADAMIAS Yum!!
The House of Honey
If you like honey, it’s definitely worth stopping at The House of Honey, who specialises in raw, pure, unpasteurized and unadulterated honeys. You can enjoy morning or afternoon tea in the air-conditioned Sticky Spoon Café – sit at a table out the front or in the garden or purely pop in to enjoy their honey tasting and honey ice cream!
The honey shop is a showcase of honey and bee-related items, with different varieties of honey, honeycomb, royal jelly, candles and beauty products, books, even boots, figurines and soft toys.
