Not Just Your Average Chocolate Shop!

Ahhhh Chocolate.. Seriously who doesn’t love it?! This glorious ‘food from the gods’ is one of the biggest go-to treats (or health fixes!) for most folk old and young. No matter what shape, colour or form it comes in – Chocolate truly is there for us through the good times and most certainly through the bad.

It was the pure love of the delicious stuff that brought two gentlemen, Martin and Patrick, together to create what they thought would be a little Chocolatier and more of a ‘side-line’ business. Establishing Margaret River Chocolate Company in 1999, down in the beautiful region of Metricup, Margaret River, this little project sky rocketed into one of WA’s largest empires in glorious produce! The award winning Margaret River Chocolate Company have been putting smiles on not only the WA locals faces but also travellers from far and wide ever since!

It was only a year later in 2000 when they decided to open their chocolate shop in the Swan Valley Wine Region. YAY – Lucky us! There’s no need to travel 3 hours down to Margaret River from Perth to get your intake of what we believe (and we are sure you’ll agree) is one of the best chocolatiers in all of Australia.

Their Swan Valley establishment is situated only 25 minutes from the Perth CBD – there you will find a Willy Wonker extravaganza (sorry – no Oompa Loompas to be seen here) full of an incredible range of chocolate treats. From white chocolate to dark chocolate, from milk to the new RUBY chocolate. You’ll find your humble chocolate bars, chocolate coated lollies, giant freckles, rocky roads, delicate hand made chocolate truffles and so much more! And do you scream for ice-cream?! Margaret River Chocolate Co’s ice-cream is out of this world good!

There is a viewing window where you can see the talented chocolatiers working their magic and if you’re feeling like a hot drink or bite to eat – look no further! Within the chocolate factory is their café – dishing up sweet and savoury, breakfast and lunch. Oh and you must try one of their hot chocolates or fondues of course (just wiping a bit of drool whilst typing this.. yum!)

We here at d’Vine Tours absolutely LOVE our daily chocolate fix hence why we just need to include this fix in our daily wine tours! We take all our lovely guests to the Margaret River Chocolate Company in the Swan Valley in the afternoon on the tours. It’s the perfect way to hit that afternoon craving for a sugar hit or even get that coffee hit from the café. All guests are taken into the factory by one of d’Vines lovely guides and are given a private little tasting of some delectable chocolate treats and the infamous chocolate buttons. YUMMMY!

Now, I’ve pretty much tried every morsel of chocolate delight in the factory, and being a dark chocolate lover I do have a few favourites within this category. The ‘nut clusters’ are incredible! If you’re a bit of a ‘nutty’ then it is definitely worth trying these – it’s literally a big cluster of nuts stuck together by chocolate! My fav is the dark chocolate macadamia cluster however they also have almond and cashew clusters both in milk chocolate and white chocolate.

My two other favourites and also worth the try for any one that likes to spice things up in their life, is the dark chocolate coated ginger pieces – they also come in milk chocolate – and the walnut and ginger dark chocolate gourmet bar.. Just heaven!!
