Taste some of the region’s finest Verdelho, Shiraz and Chardonnay in a tour of Sittella Winery with d’Vine Wine Tours. Sittella is one of several family-owned wineries that we visit on our tours. Founded in 1998, they’re one of the newer kids on the block, but this winery has come a long way in a relatively short time. Owners Simon and Maaike Burns were inspired to start their own plantation after travelling through France in the 80s. With the first plantation in 1993, the plans were originally for a hobby farm simply for family and friends to enjoy. The resulting wines were too good to keep to themselves though, so the Burns’ opened a restaurant and cellar door a few years later.
In the time since, they’ve filled their trophy cabinet with awards for their Petit Verdot, Verdelho and Sparkling Chenin, and developed the business to cater for weddings and functions.
